Canine Concern dog show at Woodside Hall Nursing Home
Woodside Hall Nursing Home residents enjoyed a summertime dog show on Sunday 24th August with proud dog owners joining the party to showcase their pooch and impress the show’s judge. The doggy display was organised by Canine Concern – a charity that specialises in bringing joy and reassurance into the lives of the elderly, vulnerable and many others who benefit from our beloved furry friends. Woodside Hall were excited to host this year’s dog show, as pets are a crucial part of our well-being strategy to keep our residents feeling happy, engaged and positive. The team of volunteers at Woodside Hall helped to make the day as special as possible with a raffle, BBQ, cake stalls and refreshments for everyone to enjoy. It was a great opportunity to bring the community, our team and the residents together to enjoy a sunshine-filled, entertaining day. Here at Woodside, we also have a resident Canine Concern dog called Tilly. She’s a kind-hearted, black German shepherd who’s bonded with all of our residents, so it was a great opportunity for them to watch her in action. The show was a huge success and dog lovers gathered on the grounds of the home to watch the winners receive their trophies, rosettes, certificates and goody bags. The lovely Kate Popple was our judge; she’s an active member and assessor for Canine Concern and she had the difficult task of choosing the best six dogs for each of the categories. The top doggy defeaters can be seen below:
- First class, prettiest bitch – Mabel with Marianne
- Second class, most handsome dog – Benny with Bill
- Waggiest tail – Bono with Ray
- Most appealing eyes – Loki with Danni
- Class of the best 6 legs (where the handler and their dog are judged together) – Rose with Aimee
- Residents’ choice (where the residents of Woodside Hall Nursing Home voted on the best dog in the ring) – Isaac with Debbie
All in all, it was a fantastic day and most importantly, our residents thoroughly enjoyed it. If you or anyone you know is looking for a residential care home please get in touch and book a tour. We offer the highest quality care in East Sussex and our residents’ happiness, health and wellbeing are always our number one priority.

Canine Concern Comments
Sharon, the manager of Woodside Hall has been a Canine Concern member with Tilly since 2018. She has welcomed other Canine Concern dogs to the home to give the residents and staff different dogs to enjoy. She has even hosted several new member assessments where our assessors can see in the actual environment how a potential Canine Concern dog react. Woodside Hall have supported Canine Concern for many years, helping to raise funds with raffles as well as a collection box in the entrance hall. They even participated in our celebratory virtual tea party to raise funds and have fun. This was held during the lockdown in February 2021 to celebrate our 33rd birthday of being a fantastic charity. Sharon and Woodside Hall have been very supportive in so many ways. Thank you to you all.
