I have been deputy head teacher at a primary school for about 8 years. We have always been an animal friendly school and already had chickens and I had always wanted a dog, as I grew up with dogs.

I first became aware of Canine Concern when Sally, (another member with her two labradors, Dylan and Hardy) visited a nursing home that I worked at. I had just started training a new labrador puppy who loved attention and cuddles.

I started visiting with dogs in about 1995 when I lived in Chester. My parents, who we had looked after at home, moved into a local nursing home and I would go each evening to visit them, and of course I would take a dog.

Last year in Sussex we were asked to help with our dogs during the police wellbeing weeks 7th-20th October 2019.

I started volunteering with my Border Collie, called Busy, in 2014, visiting a care home briefly, then joining my local school. I felt really passionate about supporting children with my dogs, as I have worked in Special Educational Needs for 20 years and been a school governor for 17 years. I transferred to Canine Concern in 2017.
